The American Heart Association describes an age-predicted maximum heart rate of about 220 minus age. It gives general target ranges of 50–70% of maximum for moderate-intensity activity and 70–85% for vigorous activity.
These figures are averages. Medicines and heart conditions can affect heart rate. If you have a heart condition, take medication that affects heart rate, or have been given a specific exercise limit, follow individualized professional advice.
